Two choices that decide how your customers hear about their bookings. They apply to the active site.
Which contact details a booking needs
Every booking asks for a first and last name. Pick what else it must include:
- Email required — the default. Choose it if your site sends email.
- Mobile required — choose it if you have an SMS line set up.
- Both required — the customer gives an email and a mobile.
- Either one — the customer gives at least one; choose it if you can reach them by both email and text.
There is no "neither": a business needs some way to reach the person turning up. The same rule applies to the public booking form, to appointments you add yourself, and to appointments created by automations. A signed-in customer whose account has no email can type one on the form; it is kept on that booking only.
SMS booking notifications
When switched on, the customer gets a text when the booking is confirmed, before it starts, and when it is cancelled, rescheduled or needs payment. Each text costs money, so it is off until you turn it on. The wording is edited under SMS Templates, in the Booking group.
A text goes out only if the booking has a mobile and your SMS line can send ordinary messages. A line limited to sign-in codes cannot, and the page tells you so.
When the two do not match
If you let customers give only a mobile (Mobile required or Either one) while booking texts are off or your line cannot send them, those customers will not be notified at all. The page shows a warning in that case — it is a reminder, not a block.
