Site Settings

Every site-wide setting lives on this page, but domains and credentials need a separate permission that only a superadmin can grant.

Each install has one site, and every setting that applies to the whole of it is gathered here: language and format, branding, theme, social, domains, advanced settings, and outside services such as payments, email, SMS and live chat.

Tabs come from different modules

This page does not own all of its sections. Payments comes from the store, for example, and the mail server settings from the inbox. Each module adds its own section to the relevant tab.

A section is shown only to someone allowed to see it, and a tab with no section you can see is left out of the side list altogether. So if a tab is missing, the likely cause is access, not a missing feature.

Three levels of access

  • View to open the page and see the settings.
  • Edit to save language, branding, theme, social, custom code and the rest of the ordinary site settings.
  • Manage domains and credentials for domains, SMS, social OAuth, customer login and email recipients.

Only a superadmin can give the third level to a role, a user or an API key; even someone who holds it cannot pass it on. That is why an ordinary site admin does not see those sections.

Seeing a section is not the same as saving it

Sections contributed by other modules check that module's permission when you save. Payment gateway settings need the store settings permission, and maintenance mode and permalinks need the content settings permission. If a save is refused for lack of access, check the permission of the module that owns that section.

Secrets are not shown again after saving

Credentials are stored encrypted. After saving you see only a "Configured" status and a masked preview, never the value itself. To change them, enter every field for that service again.

Visit Site opens the primary domain

The "Visit Site" button at the top of the page and the domain shown on the overview are both the primary domain, which is set on the Domains tab.
